 Carbon and sulphur comprise the two main building blocks of organic life on Earth. Carbon is found in carbon-based energy sources such as coal, oil, and natural gas. These sources release the gas when burned which leads to pollution problems such as acid rain; however, these sources also helps feed us and produce heat and electricity. Sulphur is found in sulfate that humans use in fertilizers like ammonium sulfate to grow crops which helps feed the world population. Also, some sulfur is used in the making of steel.

This project is to find out how much carbon or sulfur is in a sample by using a Copper-Chlorine titration. The titration will be performed using the modified burette technique. A modified burette has two burets with one half filled with acid and one half filled with base solution. This allows for the titration to be performed twice once for carbon and once for sulphur. If the values are close then the values for each compound are added together. The total amount of carbon or sulfur in the sample will be found.(carbon sulphur analysers manufacturers in india)


The modified burette technique will be used to determine the amount of carbon dioxide in air samples. It can also be used to determine how much sulphur is in various samples (for example, an acid rain sample).


This project shows how to use the catalytic converter in a car to convert carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide. The catalyst is a zirconium/silicon alloy with a surface area of about 0.75 square meters per gram.

One gram of this catalyst will be placed in a jar containing 50 cc of CO and one liter of ethanol. Heat up the mixture by circulating water very slowly through it with a hand-operated heater.
